In a game where (in PvP) range, mobility, and damage resistance reign king due to the fact that one can make up for the other, the only titan subclass that had 2/3 is having BOTH its mobility and damage resistance nerfed. Sentinel has blocking (a great addition) and also a shield throw which differentiates it from other titan subclasses. Burning Maul, more of the same, ground smash, very small AoE, little mobility aside from sprinting, and the light attack which costs too much and doesn't move you much. Glacial Quake was thought to be Fists of Havok 2.0, and it very well might be after the nerf. Because Bungie seems to want Titans to be so melee-focused it means they give themselves very little room to work with. Titan melees are also all close range or require a sprint timer to be used (shoulder charges and mini slam), save for the mini hammer on Burning Maul, or the shiver strike on behemoth (which may have its range significantly reduced). The issue here is that titans are destined to keep receiving melee roaming supers due to Bungie's unwavering adherence to the "punchy boi" titan design. Hunters are in the middle where they receive many offensive 1and done supers, but also powerful options in the melee and range roamer categories. Warlocks receive the most variation with a 2 of each of the first 3, along with a final defensive 1and done. Titans have the least variation in their supers with 4/7 following the same archetype of melee roamer. We'll say 1 arc super (all the trees follow the same melee roamer archetype) In addition, Warlocks get 2/7 longe range roaming supers, 2 "1and done's" (chaos, nova bomb), and a defensive "1and done". That is 7 supers with 4/7 are roaming supers and only 2/7 being a melee range super (Nova Warp/Stormtrance which I will call melee range). In addition, titans receive 1 roaming long-range super (hammer of sol) and 1 long-range "1 and done" super (thunder crash), and 1 defensive "1and done"Ģ solar supers (Well of Radiance, Daybreak) That's 7 supers with 5/7 being roaming supers and four out of those 5 being melee roaming supers. Onto the problem with Bungie's super design philosophy.Ģ arc supers (Fists of Havoc and Thundercrash)Ģ solar supers (Hammer of Sol and Burning Maul) In a few day's time, Glacial Quake will usurp Nova Warp for the lowest damage resistance in the game at 47%, along with its mobility receiving a seemingly sizeable nerf (we cannot know for sure because the patch is unreleased, however, we will speculate). At the time of writing this, Behemoth has the second-lowest damage resistance of any roaming super in the game at 50%, only Nova Warp is lower at 49% (I will be excluding Golden Gun which historically has 0%). Since then it has undergone some nerfs, with many more to come. Spectral blades has top-tier mobility and the highest dmg resistance in the game when cloaked, and 1% shy of being tied for highest when uncloaked but has poor range.Īt launch Glacial Quake had damage resistance of 60% blowing out spectral blades by 6%, mobility to rival dawnblade (though behemoth was more of a pretender and dawnblade can truly fly), though it was a melee super, its mobility certainly took care of that.Īfter the initial clunkiness of the subclass wore off and people learned to use it properly, along with the additions of game-changing aspects/fragments, Behemoth rose to the top of the PvP world. Daybreak (who is tied with HoS) has comparable range and top-tier mobility to boot, making it one of the best PvP supers in the game. Hammer of Sol has decent/good range along with moderate dmg resistance at 51%, tied for third lowest. Thundercrash has range and mobility but is tied for the second-lowest damage resistance in the game at 49%. Any combination of 2/3 of those would be deadly so often times we don't see a combo of 2, usually just 1. For a super, the facets we look for are damage resistance, mobility, and range. Starting with everyone's favorite Behemoth super, Glacial Quake.

I was the Community Manager and later Lead Designer for Shadowbane (Todd Coleman originally hired me), so if you ever have any questions about it, let me know.įunny enough, someone purchased it and relaunched Shadowbane about a month ago. Also I haven't played SB but from what I've seen the territory conquest / control was a major element of the game, very thrilling. We've got city building in the EK but its implications are very different than what we would have if we could create cities from scratch in the Dregs. I think they've used SB as model for many features in Crowfall, especially the character advancement, but two things I believe are really missing from SB : free city building in the Dregs (I think right now it's more a kind of customization of existing forts) and the territory control. Good news though - they freaking ARE and it's coming Q1 2021 and I can't wait. Sega actually did put a big emphasis on the social part of the game, which is badass - I just wish they would add MORE. While the gameplay and stat building is great and a lot of fun. The closest thing in recent memory is Phantasy Star Online 2, by far. I make an effort to at least pay attention to what is coming out in hopes that someday "the" game will release and I'll finally be able to get completely obsessed with a game. That said, I don't think I've stopped looking or trying. I don't remember the last time I truly got completely engrossed with an MMO. A game that does this well and is relevant because it recently released would be Genshin Impact. The game might as well just be a single player experience with some multiplayer missions tacked in. then what is the point of having other people in the world with you? At that point the online aspect only hurts the game because you're barely taking advantage of it anyways. If the social aspect sucks and you spend the entire time just playing the game solo. The best and most fun aspect of an MMO, in my opinion, is the social aspect. How many MMOs let me actually influence the world and leads me into friendships (to include frenemies, hehe)? If I want a good single-player story, I have plenty of options for that. You want to make it easy to get into, not require that group of friends to have fun, but make it easy to get into and establish solid social circles. but, at the end of the day, I would think that MMOs would be more about creating and solidifying social circles since that is usually the stickiest factor of a virtual world (imo). every game designer feels like they know best, and my passion is obviously around community development/experience/management. The thing that gets me the most is most MMOs don't actually cater to social connections or community building. 02 (or my soapbox, hehe) is that mainly what we see is seeing companies basically, ahem, emulating someone else's success, trying to make a massively multiplayer single-player game, or rebuilding something old instead of learning from it and building a true spiritual successor. I tend to have the same issue as of late. Maybe we're just getting too old for the massive time sink games. We tried a bunch of free to play ones recently and haven't really found one we like yet. My wife and I have been looking for a new MMO. LazyPeon does a "First Impression" of it that might be good to check out if you're interested in the game: I do keep up with some of the guilds that are playing it and look like they are having fun. I, of course, wish them the best and I'll try it again once they've baked a bit more in Beta. There are some aspects that sound great on paper but don't work as well in practice. Granted, I am biased because I worked on Shadowbane the longest of anyone went from community building and world building pre-launch to eventually being the lead designer on it until I went to BioWare. but I also think they also failed to realize some of the lessons from it. I do think Crowfall deviates from that (in a good way).Ĭrowfall is an iteration or spiritual successor of Shadowbane and I think they took a lot of good lessons from it. I think the challenge is that so many MMOs as of recent are mainly cookie cutters of another MMO or a bit too much on the Buy To Win side of things. The result was levels of destruction we simply hadn't seen before, and that makes it a landmark game. It was one of the first Battlefield games with a proper story, characters who you enjoy spending time with, and it represents the first use of the now legendary Frostbite engine in the Battlefield series. Shame, because it was the prototype for most things that made the sequel so brilliant. Many fondly remember Bad Company 2, but few talk about the original with quite the same enthusiasm. Battlefield 4 has come a long way since then, but we can't ignore the shadow of its false promises, hence its somewhat diminished position on this list. Sadly, launch day troubles soured public opinion on the game for quite some time, its best qualities blighted by crippled servers and bugs aplenty. PlayStation and Xbox owners could finally appreciate the joyous chaos of 64-player matches, while the Levolution system – in which huge parts of each map could be drastically changed by weather and player activity – is still an impressive addition. While DICE clearly struggled as it worked to release Battlefield 4 on PC and across two console generations, there was a lot to love here. While the campaign is an improvement, it still had plenty of room for improvement – not that you cared all much once you were knees deep into Battlefield 4's upgraded multiplayer options. With the foundation for a new era of Battlefield outlined by Battlefield 3, DICE's follow-up is essentially more of the same. I was provided a copy of the game by the publisher. You can buy RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition on Steam here. It’s just a lazy reskin of the old game, an excuse to put it back on the store if anything. So, if you haven’t already picked the game up on Steam, it’s worth a look, but if you still have the Platinum version from when that was on sale, there’s nothing here worth upgrading for. I mean, I’m not complaining that RCT3 is finally back on Steam, but it would have been nice to see the original developers give it a bit more love, especially considering that they went so far as to call it the “Complete Edition”. They could have added even higher HD support, better textures, or even Steam achievements, but they skipped on all of that and just slapped it back onto Steam. Regardless, it’s still a fantastic game underneath that, but honestly, this is kind lazy on Frontier’s part. It’s honestly just better to think of the game as a reskinned Platinum edition with a new publisher, nothing enough to warrant an outright name change. That’s it – that’s RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition. The RCT wiki notes faster load times, the removal of the “Atari” cheat code that would make peeps applaud, changed splash screens, and some additional changes on Switch to improve playability. Publishers, Atari, Inc., Aspyr Media, Frontier Developments Developers, Frontier Developments Release date, 2004 Genre, Simulation Game rating. Outside of that single change there’s really not much else to note. As it stands, the UI just gets really tiny the farther you go, making it a bit difficult to play. Fortunately, you can force the game to run at those resolutions by editing the options.txt file within the appdata directory (as was the case with Platinum), but there does not appear to be a way to scale the UI past 1080p. That sounds great until you realize that 1080p is quickly not becoming the norm anymore and the game lacks native support for 1440p or 4K. Let’s start with the major one: the addition of native widescreen support for higher resolutions up to 1920x1080p. So, instead of giving this release its own review, I opted to make this video going over the differences instead. This begs the question though: what exactly has changed other than the title? Well, to go ahead and spoil the rest of the video… almost nothing. * Indicates device should be compatible with DirectX® version 9.0b or higher.Instead of just releasing RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum again though, Frontier released the game as RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition. The scale of the locations manages to be especially impressive. Shadowlands makes use of the Unity engine, the same middleware responsible for stunners like Shadowgun and Dead Trigger, and the difference shows immediately. Combat is fast and fun, with a dodge roll and jump ability, but can also be a bit simple, particularly if you rely heavily on melee combat. You can use stealth, swordsmanship, or ranged attacks, and a balanced character will likely rely on all three at different times. The action-based combat emphasizes diverse approaches to character development over juggling spells and buffs. Like most players, I haven’t played the original Ravensword, but it’s clear that this series leans more toward the Elder Scrolls formula compared to the more MMO-like combat of Aralon. The story is told through dialog, without much in the way of cut scenes, but it does feature a good deal more voice acting than Crescent Moon’s past games. You have to search for answers as to why you survived, but also what kind of force managed to wipe out everyone around you. Set some generations later, it tells the story of a soldier who managed to survive an event that wiped out both sides of an entire battlefield. Now, like stepping through a time machine, we’re offered Ravensword: Shadowlands, Crescent Moon’s latest open-world RPG, and it feels like a giant leap.Īlthough the comparisons to Aralon are going to be immediately obvious, Shadowlands follows an earlier Ravensword title that hasn’t yet graced Google’s OS. When Aralon’s long-overdue Android port arrived less than two months ago ago, I said it was by far the most robust RPG on the platform, despite its dated graphics and rough edges. The default settings are fine for most people. Maybe if you're on a Windows tablet or a budget laptop, you'd need to make use of the speed hacks if you find that games are running slow. Look towards the bottom left for this slider shown below: First, access the video plug-in settings by going to Config > Video (GS) > Core GS Settings, as shown below: PCSX2 makes adjusting game performance very easy with a simple slider. Hovering over the slider pops up this information: The default setting is “ 2 - Safe (faster)”. The Presets apply speed hacks, some recompiler options and some game fixes known to boost speed. Known important game fixes will be applied automatically.ġ - The most accurate emulation but also the slowest.ģ -> Tries to balance speed with compatibility.ĥ - Too many hacks which will probably slow down most games. Try moving the slider to “3”, click OK, and see if your game is running better. If that doesn't help, then I hate to break it to you but your system is not fast enough to handle PCSX2. Next, you’ll need the ROMs to actually play! I use the PlayStation 2 emulator called PCSX2 for The Sims 2 Castaway with my Xbox controller. With this I play The Sims Console, The Sims Bustin’ Out, The Urbz: Sims in the City, The Sims 2 Console and The Sims 2: Pets Console, all the goodies! The Sims 2 Castaway can be played on it since it is a Wii game, but I personally don’t because my controller only seems to work with GameCube games. (Keyboard can also be used if you don’t have a controller) You could probably also use an Xbox controller, but I don’t know if Zadig is still needed for that to work or not because I already had it setup by the time I got an xbox controller. (as a Windows user) This link should explain what it is with a download link and there’s also a guide. To make the adapter work with the Dolphin emulator, I downloaded a driver with Zadig. I got mine years ago so I don’t have a link to my exact purchase, but it looks like this. I use the adapter Nintendo Wii U to make my GameCube controller work. The current version I use is 5.0-11824 because I just haven’t updated in a while. For The Sims 2 Console I use the GameCube/Wii emulator called Dolphin. My current setup is what’s allowed for speedrunning, so there are other options out there. Continued abuse of our services will cause your IP address to be blocked indefinitely.Oh, sure!
